Which legislation protects staff, public and patient protection in relation to equipment?

IRR 2017

The main idea is a regulatory framework that governs how ionising radiation equipment is used to protect everyone around it. Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 require employers to assess risks, implement local rules, maintain and test equipment, provide shielding and safe access, monitor workers, and train staff. This coverage directly protects staff and the public from radiation hazards arising from the equipment, and by ensuring safe operation it also protects patients during radiographic procedures. While IRMER deals with protecting patients during medical exposures and focuses on justification and optimization of the dose to the patient, IRR 2017 is the broader legislation that governs protection related to the equipment itself. The 2017 version is the current one, superseding earlier versions.
